The Good Dinosaur (previously untitled)

New Pixar Slate: Pushed back a little from its planned November 2013 release date, the newly-christened The Good Dinosaur speculates on what might have happened if giant dinosaurs never became extinct. It's now due out May 30, 2014; Bob Peterson (Up) directs. The next film from Pete Docter (Monsters Inc., Up) will be out on June 19, 2015 (pushed back one year from May 2014), though its title is still up in the air; it promises to visit “the world inside the human mind.” Meanwhile, Pixar veteran Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3) is working on a new project without a title or release date; all we know is that it’s “wholly original” and “delves into the vibrant holiday of Día de los Muertos,” the Latin American Day of the Dead. Is it too much to hope that the latter explores more of the horror movie vibe of Toy Story 3? [Via press release]

White Score: We don’t have to wait quite so long for Gore Verbinski’s The Lone Ranger, which comes out next year, so let’s note that Jack White (The White Stripes) will write, produce, and perform the musical score. This sounds like an inspired choice; it will be his first feature film score, and seems of a piece with Johnny Depp’s explanation of his Tonto makeup. But don’t expect “The William Tell Overture.” [Via press release]

Government Probe: Regulators in the United States are looking into how movie studios deal with China, including the potentially "inappropriate" payments. Letters of inquiry have reportedly been sent to at least five studios, including Disney, DreamWorks Animation, and 20th Century Fox. The SEC and the studios have declined to comment. [Reuters]

Bootleg This: Set aside any reservations you might have had about Shia LaBeouf starring as a 1930’s-era bootlegger. The new trailer for Lawless showcases a great cast (Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowski, Jessica Chastain) and shockingly good action from director John Hillcoat. [Yahoo! Movies]
