Horrible Bosses

Ex-Doc Director Scores Another Comedy: Director Seth Gordon gained notice with the documentary The King of Kong, but he’s making a name for himself as a narrative comedy director, as in last summer’s Horrible Bosses, and his next project will be a comedy too. He'll reteam with Jason Bateman in Identity Theft, along with Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids); production is expected to begin as soon as Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II) finishes rewriting the script. World War II Gets a General: Our favorite authority figure, Tommy Lee Jones, has joined Matthew Fox in the cast of The Emperor. The story takes place in 1945; Jones will star as General Douglas MacArthur, who must oversee post-war Japan, including the fate of Emperor Hirohito. (Entertainment Weekly)

But What I Really Want to Do is Write: Rising star Joel Edgerton (Warrior) has sold a script for “a drama with comedic elements” titled One Night Stand to New Regency. No word yet on whether Edgerton wants to star; he previously co-wrote the excellent crime thriller The Square, which his brother Nash Edgerton directed. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Pulitzer Prize, Direct to Big Screen: Speaking of spec script sales, renowned novelist Cormac McCarthy (All the Pretty Horses, No Country for Old Men, The Road) has sold one, too. The Counselor revolves around a lawyer who decided to dabble in the drug trade; the story is set in the modern-day Southwest. (Deadline)
