Still Reigning: In its third weekend of release, The Hunger Games dropped only 43% to remain box office champion, earning an estimated $43 million, for a total of $302 million so far. That’s more than any of the Twilight movies to date. Among debuting films, American Reunion, the fourth entry in the series to receive a theatrical release, made $21.5 million, while Titanic 3D earned $17.35 million, which almost covers its reported conversion cost of $18 million, though its long running time is blamed for the film not making as much as other recent 3D reissues. Game of Director(s): Last Friday morning, we heard from one site that The Hunger Games director Gary Ross would not be helming the sequel, Catching Fire, citing a lack of “desire” (and a lowball financial offer -- especially in view of how much the movie’s made; see above). The following day, another site claimed “multiple sources” told them Ross was not yet out the door. We’re patiently awaiting another report from still more anonymous sources claiming to be speaking “officially,” telling us that this has all been a dream. [Deadline]
Get Off My Furniture: A furniture company and a website have incurred the legal wrath of Clint Eastwood, who has filed suit over the use of his “name, identity and persona” to market “entertainment centers, ottomans and chairs.” Allegedly, marketing statements made reference to two films Eastwood directed, A Perfect World and Million Dollar Baby, as well as his starring role in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
