Beloved Comic Book Hero: A movie based on Jeff Smith’s classic, long-running, and quite wonderful comic book series Bone is moving forward. P.J. Hogan (Muriel's Wedding) is attached to direct, and Patrick Sean Smith (TV’s Greek) has been hired to write a new draft of the script, with production expected to begin later this year. Superhero Sequel: A sequel to Hancock, the 2008 superhero movie starring Will Smith and Charlize Theron, is under consideration. Director Peter Berg says that he’s attended meetings with Smith and producers Michael Mann and Akiva Goldsmith, and the group has “started to hash out an idea for sequel.” (Comic Book Movie via The Playlist)

Oscar’s Foreign-Language Shortlist: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has narrowed the field of contenders for Best Foreign Language Film consideration. Nine films, including Iran’s A Separation, Germany’s Pina, and Belgium’s Bullhead, will compete for the final five slots, out of the original 63 that were submitted. (Oscars.org)

Norwegian Character Study to U.S.: Joachim Trier’s drama Oslo, August 31st has been acquired by Strand Releasing, which plans to release it theatrically in the late spring. The film received very positive notices on the festival circuit after debuting at Cannes, and will play at Sundance in the Spotlight section. (Indiewire)
