Margin Call

He’s a Beauty: The great Jeremy Irons (pictured above in Margin Call) will play “a mysterious and reclusive uncle” in Richard LaGravenese’s Beautiful Creatures, joining Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, and Emmy Rossum. The “supernatural love story” is set to begin filming in New Orleans next month; it's based on the first novel of a series, so franchise hopes are a possibility. [Showblitz]

Paranormal Distress: Television ads for Paranormal Activity 3 have prompted at least 29 complaints from viewers in Britain, who claimed that the commercials caused “personal distress” and had upset young children. The TV spots depicted “furniture being violently moved around, a woman being invisibly pulled backwards and thrown on a bed, and eerie silhouettes of people in darkened rooms.” Britain’s Advertising Standards Authority has now decreed that the ads may not be shown before 9:00 p.m. [The Guardian]

Leave the Book, Take the Cannoli: First Paramount Pictures filed suit to stop the publication of a novel about young Vito Corleone, based on the late Mario Puzo’s The Godfather. Now the Mario Puzo Estate has filed a countersuit against Paramount which “could cause uncertainty surrounding the studio's ongoing enjoyment of its lucrative franchise.” That’s an offer we could refuse. All-Star Directors: Following on the heels of other international anthology films, Jerusalem, I Love You will feature 10 short tales about love and romance in the titular city. Lawrence Kasdan leads the all-star lineup of directors, which includes Joseph Cedar, Jerry Zucker, and Brad Silberling. Production is expected to begin this fall for a theatrical release in 2013.
