Still Box Office Champ: In its third weekend of release, The Avengers easily toppled three new challengers, raking in an estimated $55.06 million to push its domestic total to $457.1 million. Battleship (above, and in trouble) finished with $25.35 million, about $5 million less than what John Carter earned in its opening weekend. The Dictator grossed $17.4 million, while What to Expect When You’re Expecting ($10.5 million) failed to provide the alternative programming that audiences might have been seeking. [Box Office Mojo]

Uptight and Unconventional: In a new twist on the buddy cop formula, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy will team up for an untitled comedy that will be directed by Paul Feig. The script by Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation) revolves around “an uptight FBI agent and an unconventional Boston cop.” Shooting is planned for this summer so as to squeeze it into the suddenly tight schedules of McCarthy and Feig, who soared to success in front of and behind the camera in Bridesmaids. Chinese AMC: A Chinese conglomerate has purchased theatre exhibitor AMC, creating “the world’s largest cinema owner,” according to the press release. The deal is valued at $2.6 billion. The conglomerate, Dalian Wanda Group Co., Ltd. ("Wanda"), says that AMC, which operates more than 5,000 screens in the U.S. will continue to be headquarted in Kansas City, Missouri, and the programming process for AMC Theatres will remain unchanged. Bond. James Bond: The first trailer for Skyfall, the next James Bond movie, has been released, and it’s a corker. The movie is due out in November, but you need to see this now. [YouTube via Collider]
