Spider-Man vs. Venom

Found Footage Venom: Josh Trank, director of recent found-footage superhero flick Chronicle, is in talks to direct a spin-off of the Spider-Man franchise. The film would be centered around Venom, a nemesis of the webslinger, portrayed by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3. The project has been under consideration for years, but they are starting fresh: a new screenwriter is being sought. [Los Angeles Times]

Call It ‘Project Y’: Even before it opened, inspiring countless critical brickbats, Warner Bros. decided that teen party picture Project X might deserve a sequel, so they set writer Michael Bacall to work, crafting a treatment for another installment. Whether the project moves forward, even to script stage, is still up in the air; however, judging strictly by the bottom line, which was surprisingly strong for the relatively low-budget affair, it seems entirely likely. Just a Gigolo: Congratulations to Woody Allen! After more than 10 years without a job (as an actor for another director), he’s found gainful employment on John Turturro’s Fading Gigolo. Allen will play Turturro’s BFF; the two decide to become gigolos to make ends meet, which may not be a great idea, since they live in a Hasidic Jewish community. Sofia Vergera may also join the cast, which includes Sharon Stone. [Showblitz]
