The Flowers of War

Christian Bale Goes to War: China’s official submission for Academy Award consideration as Best Foreign Language Film, The Flowers of War, has been acquired for U.S. distribution by new distributor Wrekin Hill and will seek awards consideration in other categories as well. The Young da Vinci Adventures: Would you go see an action adventure movie set in the 15th Century starring a young Leonardo da Vinci? Universal Pictures is developing the project for a possible series; in addition to his artistic abilities, da Vinci was also a scientist and inventor; so the story possibilities are endless. (Variety)

Ratner Remains: As word spread yesterday about Brett Ratner’s gay slur after a public screening of his film Tower Heist on Friday night, some called for him to be replaced as producer for next year’s Academy Awards TV show, even after Ratner apologized. However, the Academy is standing behind him. (Grantland | Deadline)

Wear Your Helmets, Kids!: Because Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are pictured without helmets in the poster for Larry Crowne, authorities in Spain have fined local distributor TriPictures more than $40,000. The poster violates local law prohibiting publicity materials “that may incite excessive speed, reckless driving,“ and other similar concerns. (The Guardian UK)
