Ready to Thrill: Financing has reportedly been arranged for The Side Effects, a thriller to be directed by Steven Soderbergh. Blake Lively (pictured above in The Town) is expected to star, with Jude Law and Channing Tatum ready to play major roles in the film, also known as The Bitter Pill; shooting is scheduled to begin in April. Starbuck is Back (Sorta): Our favorite Battlestar Galactica fighter pilot, Katee Sackhoff, is “in final negotiations” to star opposite Vin Diesel in a sequel to The Chronicles of Riddick. And actor Jordi Mella could be playing the villain, a mercenary who is sent to kill Riddick. (Deadline / Variety)

International Matters: As a reminder of the importance of global box office, Paramount is delaying the release of Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters from March 2012 to January 2013, claiming that the international profile of star Jeremy Renner “should be in great shape by then.” Renner will play a supporting role in The Avengers, due in May, and will star in The Bourne Legacy, slated for August. (Deadline)

Attendance Up at Indie Theater Chains: The independent Alamo Drafthouse and Landmark theater chains reported an increase in attendance during the past year, bucking the drop in attendance suffered by the major studios. The top ten highest-grossing movies differed between the two chains, with the former featuring mostly studio product and the latter dominated by indie flicks. (Thompson on Hollywood)
