The Town

A Laughing Matter: Did you hear the one about the politician caught having an affair? Did it make you laugh? Well, Warner Bros. is hoping that Ben Affleck will make you laugh as Nathan Decker, the fictional hero of a political comedy written by Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love) that follows a cheating politician home as he “sorts out his past.” Affleck didn’t smile very much in his last starring role (The Town, above, which he also directed), but he’s a capable comic actor, so this sounds promising. The French Have a Word: The French comedy The Intouchables has become a runaway hit in Europe, earning more than $280 million worldwide, and is due in U.S. theaters in May via the Weinstein Co. As is their wont, the Weinsteins also want to make an English-language version, and are talking to Colin Firth about starring as a disabled billionaire who becomes friends with his caretaker; they’re also in in early negotations with Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) to write and direct the remake. The original sparked controversy when a right-wing politician protested the film's positive depiction of the friendship between a white European and an African immigrant. [Showblitz]

Want to Be a Star?: Normally we bring you news about actors who want to be in movies. (See above.) But the folks behind Arthur & Lancelot, a new spin on the King Arthur legend, are having a tough time convincing people to appear in their flick now, especially after they dumped relative unknowns Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones) and Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, and upcoming RoboCop). Colin Farrell is the latest to say, “Hey, let me check my schedule … oops, sorry, I’m tied up.” [Deadline]
