Movie News: 'World War Z' Sequel Needs Director; 'Pacific Rim 2' May Still Happen

World War Z 2: Director Juan Antonio Bayona (The Impossible) has departed the sequel to Brad Pitt's zombie epic World War Z 2. Scheduling issues are to blame; Bayona is still finishing his next movie, A Monster Calls, while Paramount wants to start production on their sequel this summer, aiming for theatrical release on June 9, 2017. Darren Aronofsky: Jennifer Lawrence (above in Joy) will star in the next movie from Darren Aronofsky (Noah), confirming reports that first circulated three months ago. The untitled project will revolve around a couple who must deal with uninvited guests disrupting their tranquil home. Javier Bardem is in talks to co-star; the movie is scheduled for release sometime next year. [Variety]


Pacific Rim

Pacific Rim 2: Guillermo del Toro remains optimistic about his prospects for making the sequel to Pacific Rim, despite recent reports to the contrary. Via social media, he stated: "Pac Rim 2 cancelled? Don't believe everything you read. It's still going and I'll remain [with] it in one way or another!" [Twitter via Dread Central]



Race TV Spot: A new TV spot for Race speedily explains its plot and sets up its premise. Stephan James stars as famed athlete Jesse Owens (Stephan James), who travels to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany, where Adolph Hitler rules with a vision of Aryan supremacy.
