Not Fade Away

Not Fade Away: The former star of The Sopranos is returning to New Jersey. James Gandolfini plays a disapproving father in Not Fade Away, directed by Sopranos creator David Chase. The movie revolves around a group of friends in 1960s New Jersey who form a rock band; it opens in limited release on December 21. [Collider]

Transformers 4: Mark Wahlberg has been confirmed as the lead in Michael Bay’s forthcoming Transformers 4, and now the roles of his daughter and her biker boyfriend may have been cast as well. Reportedly, Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) will fill those roles. Thwaites is the more experienced actor, having appeared in 57 episodes of the popular Australian TV series Home and Away. [Twitch]

Salt Sequel: Playing a dynamic role that was originally crafted for Tom Cruise, Angelina Jolie made Salt her own in 2010; the movie grossed more than $290 million worldwide. Sequel plans have been delayed, however, since Jolie passed on the initial draft by Kurt Wimmer. The search for a new writer has now led, unexpectedly, to Becky Johnston, whose credits include character pieces like Seven Years in Tibet and The Prince of Tides. [The Hollywood Reporter]

The Lone Ranger Trailer: A new full-length trailer for The Lone Ranger has arrived online. Armie Hammer stars as the titular character, with Johnny Depp promising to add his own unique spin as Tonto. The movie is due in theaters on July 3, 2013. [Bleeding Cool]
