Movie News: 'Thor: Ragnarok' Director to Play Imaginary Hitler; 'Downsizing' Director Tapped for Legal Drama

Thor: Ragnarok

Jojo Rabbit: We heard previously that Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, above) will direct Jojo Rabbit, a film about a young boy in Nazi-era Germany who learns that his mother is hiding a Jewish child in their home. Now comes word that Waititi will costar as "an imaginary version of Adolf Hitler." Waitti says: "It’s my version of… a lonely boy’s best version of his hero, which is really his dad." Downsizing

The Burial: Alexander Payne (Downsizing, above) is in early talks with Amazon Studios to direct The Burial. It's a drama about a flamboyant attorney who takes on the case of a local businessman against a major funeral-home conglomerate. Doug Wright (Quills) wrote the screenplay. [Deadline]

 

Marjorie Prime

Pale Blue Dot: Jon Hamm (Marjorie Prime, above) is in negotiations to star opposite Natalie Portman in Pale Blue Dot. Portman is set to portray an astronaut whose life begins to unravel after she returns home to Earth after a successful mission in space. Hamm will play a fellow astronaut. Noah Hawley (TV's Fargo, Legion) will direct. [Variety]

 

Eighth Grade

Eighth Grade Trailer: In Eighth Grade, a teenager (Elsie Fisher) struggles to survive her final week of classes before moving on to high school. The first trailer showcases the epic challenges she faces. The comedy debuted to high praise at the recent Sundance Film Festival and will open in theaters on July 13. [Movieclips]
