Suicide Squad

The Joker: Todd Phillips (The Hangover, War Dogs) will direct a movie about the origin of iconic DC Comics villain The Joker. Phillips will also cowrite the script with Scott Silver (The Fighter) and Martin Scorsese will produce. It's intended to be a "gritty and grounded hard-boiled crime film set in early-’80s Gotham City." Jared Leto most recently played the character in Suicide Squad (above) and is expected to reprise the role in a sequel and a Harley Quinn spinoff starring Margot Robbie, but a new actor will be cast in The Joker solo movie. Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: Writer/director James Gunn has teased a few tidbits about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He says that the movie "will take place after the next two Avengers movies and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe. We’re going to be setting up new characters. It will be the last movie of this version of Guardians of the Galaxy.” [Facebook via Collider]

Michael K. Williams

Han Solo: Back in March, we heard that Michael K. Williams (Assassin's Creed, HBO's The Wire) was in talks to join the Han Solo spinoff movie. Williams was cast as an unidentified, half-human, half-animal character. But now he says his role has been cut because he was not available for reshoots this summer, due to a previous commitment to shoot a movie in Africa: "They wanted me now; I couldn’t go. So they had to clip-clip-clip.” Still, Williams had only good things to say about the experience: "They’re a great group of people." [Deadline]
