Star Wars

Star Wars: Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirms that Star Wars: Episode VII will exist within the "canon" created by George Lucas, and the spin-off movies will "exist within that vast universe that he created." However, she added: "There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the stand-alone films) in and out of the saga episodes." So it appears that any new characters in the spin-offs will stand alone -- and out of the main action -- though it's not clear if that rule applies to familiar characters rumored for the spin-offs, such as Yoda and Boba Fett. Inconceivable: Lindsay Lohan has secured financing (and insurance) for her next starring role, a psychological thriller entitled Inconceivable. Lohan will also help produce the project, which is set to begin filming in March, even though it does not yet have a director and other cast members are yet to be determined. The film has a budget of $5 million and will have a limited release in New York and Los Angeles before heading to Video On Demand platforms. [The Wrap]

Maleficent Trailer: Whereas the first trailer for Disney's upcoming Maleficent was dark and foreboding, the new trailer dares to use imagery from Disney's classic Sleeping Beauty to help introduce the titular character, "Disney's greatest villain" (Angelina Jolie), in a more benign manner to Princess Aurora (Elle Fanning). Look for it in theaters on May 30. [YouTube]

300: Rise of an Empire Trailer: Eva Green stands tall in the new trailer for 300: Rise of an Empire, which features extravagant slow motion, a mighty navy, and a lot of screaming and slashing. Sullivan Stapleton and Lena Headey also star; the movie explodes into theaters on March 7. [Warner Bros.]
