Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta

Star Wars Spin-off: It was all smiles when Gareth Edwards and Gary Whitta met their "new boss" recently, which matters to movie fans since those two are the newly announced director and writer, respectively, of the first Star Wars spin-off film; Whitta shared the photo via social media. We're hoping their enthusiasm will translate into something really good when the movie hits theaters in December 2016. [Twitter]

Jurassic World

Jurassic World: While we knew that Jurassic World would feature dinosaurs, other plot details have been kept secret -- until now. In a new interview, director Colin Treverrow confirms that the movie "takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nubar" off the coast of Costa Rica; the premise is that people are "already kind of over" the reality that dinosaurs again walk the Earth. What happens then? The movie will "tell a bold new story that doesn’t rely on a proven formula." We'll find out how different when it stomps into theaters on June 12, 2015. [Slash Film]

Independence Day / World War Z

Independence Day 2/World War Z 2: Two blockbuster sequels are moving forward. Now that Will Smith is definitely out of Independence Day 2, Carter Blanchard has been hired to rewrite the script to incorporate the absence of Smith's character; Roland Emmerich is still attached to direct. Meanwhile, the sequel to World War Z will be written by Academy Award-nominated Steven Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things, Locke). Brad Pitt will be reprising his role, and J.A. Bayona (The Impossible) is on board to direct. [Variety]

This Is Where I Leave You

This Is Where I Leave You Trailer: When a family patriarch dies, his widow (Jane Fonda) and children (Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Corey Stoll) are compelled to spend a week together in This Is Where I Leave You, due out on September 12. The first trailer, which also features Rose Byrne and Dax Shepard, captures a plethora of lighthearted and dramatic moments. [Warner Bros.]
