Academy Awards: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (above), The Shape of Water, War for the Planet of the Apes and Blade Runner 2049 are among the 10 films that have been named as contenders for the Visual Effects Academy Award. Hounds of Love

The Goldfinch: Rising star Ashleigh Cummings (Hounds of Love, above) has nabbed a key role in The Goldfinch. She will appear opposite Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver), Aneurin Barnard (Dunkirk) and Willa Fitzgerald (Scream: The TV Series) in an adaptation of a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Donna Tartt about a teenager who survives a terrorist bombing that kills his mother and then has numerous adventures over the years. G.I. Joe: Retaliation

G.I. Joe: As this year draws to a close, Paramount Pictures is looking ahead to the future. The company has set theatrical release dates for the third installment in the G.I. Joe series (March 27, 2020); Micronauts, inspired by a toy line featuring robots and future humans (October 16, 2020); Dungeons & Dragons, based on the popular role-playing game (July 23, 2021); and an untitled mystery movie drawn from toy and board game company Hasbro (October 1, 2021).
