Movie News: 'Selma' Director Touted for 'Black Panther' or 'Captain Marvel'; New 'The Fugitive' On Its Way

Marvel: Ava Duvernay, who directed the Academy Award-nominated drama Selma (above), is under consideration by Marvel to helm "one of its diverse superhero movies," including Black Panther or Captain Marvel. The former title is reported to be more likely, since it has a slightly earlier release date of July 6, 2018; Chadwick Boseman is set to star as the titular hero. Marvel is looking at other directors as well, so it's not a done deal yet. [The Wrap]


The Fugitive

The Fugitive: A new installment of The Fugitive is on its way. The 1960s TV series was transformed into an exciting action picture starring Harrison Ford as a doctor accused of murdering his wife before going on the run, with Tommy Lee Jones as a dogged U.S. Marshal in pursuit; Jones returned in a 1998 sequel. It's not known if the new movie will be a sequel, a prequel, or a reboot; Christina Hodson will write the screenplay. [Deadline]


Hot Pursuit

Pale Blue Dot: Reese Witherspoon (Hot Pursuit, above) will star as an astronaut in Pale Blue Dot. Her character returns home after a mission in space, only to see her life 'start to unravel when confronted by her seemingly perfect American dream life.' Witherspoon will serve as one of the producers for the project. [Variety]


Into the Grizzly Maze

Into the Grizzly Maze Trailer: A new trailer for Into the Grizzly Maze follows James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Piper Perabo, and Billy Bob Thornton as they track a deadly grizzly bear in the wilderness. The action thriller opens in theaters on June 26. [MovieClips]
