The Lego Movie

Lego Batman: Almost as soon as The Lego Movie became a smash hit earlier this year, we heard about a spin-off coming in 2016 (Ninjago), plus two sequels set for 2017 and 2018. Now comes word that another Lego spin-off movie, this one featuring Batman (and the voice of Will Arnett), is being fast-tracked, aimed for release in 2017, with the sequels getting bumped back. Chris McKay, slated to direct the first sequel, will instead helm the Batman spin-off, based on a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows). [Heat Vision]

Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy: The characters featured in this summer's live-action blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy were born in the pages of Marvel comic books, and next year they'll move on to yet another medium, as the stars of their own animated television series. The series is now in production; it will air on Disney XD in 2015. Watch the teaser trailer below. [EW.com]

This Is 40

Catherine, Called Birdy: Lena Dunham (pictured above in Judd Apatow's This Is 40), who has become a voice of the twentysomething generation via her HBO show Girls, now wants to make a movie based on Karen Cushman's 1994 novel Catherine, Called Birdy. The story follows a 12-year-old girl who comes of age in 13th century England. Dunham will write the screenplay and hopes to direct; "I just need to find someone who wants to fund a PG-13 medieval movie," she noted. [The Huffington Post]
