Justice League

Justice League: Could the long-awaited Justice League shoot back-to-back with Batman vs. Superman? Rumor has it that this is the DC project Dwayne Johnson has been hinting about for 2014, and that the back-to-back shooting schedule would facilitate things for Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and the other in-demand actors. In this report, Batman vs. Superman would end with an "insane cliffhanger/teaser" that would lead directly into Justice League, which would then be moved up to 2016, instead of 2017, as previously rumored. Magic the Gathering: Hasbro's fantasy card game Magic the Gathering, first introduced in 1993, is heading to the big screen. Twentieth Century Fox wants to make it a franchise, and so writer-producer Simon Kinberg, its X-Men/Fantastic Four chief, has been enlisted to serve as producer and franchise "engineer" for the new hoped-for series, which, like the trading cards, will undoubtedly feature wizards, creatures, spells and weapons. Houdini: Magic must be in the air, because a project about legendary magician and escape artist Harry Houdini is moving forward. Max Landis (Chronicle) has been hired to write a new draft of the screenplay for Houdini, which is said to have an H.P. Lovecraft "influence." The Sony Pictures project is in competition with another film in development from Summit Entertainment, in which Houdini is positioned as a "master spy." [Deadline]

The Lego Movie TV Spot: Speaking of Batman and Superman (see above), both superheroes can be seen and heard in a new TV spot for The Lego Movie, which opens in theaters on February 7. Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks lead the voice cast, with Will Arnett as Batman and Channing Tatum as Superman. [Warner Bros.]
