Behind the Candelabra

Behind the Candelabra: Michael Douglas plays flamboyant pianist/entertainer Liberace in Steven Soderbergh’s Behind the Candelabra, which will make its debut on HBO next year. In a new image pulled from a televised preview, Douglas tickles the ivories and shows off a fancy costume. Matt Damon also stars as Liberace’s longtime lover/partner. [Bleeding Cool]

Jumanji Remake: A remake of Joe Johnston’s 1995 comic family adventure Jumanji is on its way, and Zach Helm (Stranger Than Fiction, Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium) has been hired to write it. The original, which starred Robin Williams and Kirsten Dunst, was followed by Jon Favreau’s 2005 quasi-sequel Zathura: A Space Adventure; both were based on books by Chris Van Allsburg. Pan’s Labyrinth: Guillermo del Toro’s dark fantasy Pan’s Labyrinth will be transformed into a stage musical. Paul Williams has been hired to write the lyrics to go along with the music that is being composed by Academy Award-winner Gustavo Santaolalla, based on the book by del Toro and Jeremy Ungar. As with the film, the musical will follow a young girl who escapes into a fantasy world while living in 1944 Spain under a Fascist regime. [Deadline]

G.I. Joe Retaliation Poster: Pulled from the release calendar shortly before it was due to hit theaters last summer, G.I. Joe Retaliation has been bolstered by reshoots and retooled for 3D. A new poster released for the international market keeps the emphasis on the stars, most notably Dwayne Johnson, Channing Tatum, and Bruce Willis. The movie will finally see the light of day on March 29, 2013. [Yahoo! Movies]
