Movie News: A 'Daddy's Home' Sequel Is On the Way; Joaquin Phoenix Touted as Jesus

Daddy's Home: Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will reprise their roles from Daddy's Home in a sequel. Writers Sean Anders and John Morris are also returning; Anders will once again direct. The original, released at the end of last year, pitted stepfather Ferrell against biological father Wahlberg in a battle for the affection of two children. Mechanic: Resurrection

Mechanic: Resurrection: Jason Statham and Jessica Alba are featured in the first photo from Mechanic: Resurrection. The sequel to 2011's The Mechanic, itself a remake of the 1972 original that starred Charles Bronson, finds assassin Arthur Bishop (Statham) forced to come out of retirement and kill "the most dangerous men in the world." Joaquin Phoenix

Mary Magdalene: Joaquin Phoenix is under consideration to portray Jesus Christ in Mary Magdalene. Rooney Mara is set to star as the titular character in the religious drama. Garth Davis will direct the project, which is planning to begin production this summer, aiming for theatrical release next year. [Deadline]



Keanu Trailer: A new trailer for Keanu spoofs itself by imagining all the human characters as cats. In reality, the comedy stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as friends who pretend to be drug dealers so they can retrieve a stolen cat. Look for the movie in theaters on Friday. [Movieclips]
