The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Kicking off next summer's blockbuster season on May 2, Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and introduces Dane DeHaan (Chronicle) as Harry Osborn. DeHaan shared a new photo of himself with Garfield on set, with the caption "Breakin' it down #Osborn style... Yo." Not pictured: costars Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx. [Twitter via Coming Soon]

Max Steel: Mattel is taking a lower-key approach for Max Steel, its next toy-to-movie translation. Max is a teen with "energy power" who teams up with Steel, an alien who protects him. The project was formerly set up at Paramount with Taylor Lautner attached to star, but now Mattel is parternering with Dolphin Entertainment in Miami. Christopher Yost, a veteran writer of animated films for Marvel, has been hired to pen the screenplay, while Stewart Hendler will direct. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Student Filmmakers Nearly Shot: An armed robbery staged by student filmmakers in a Glendora, California coffee shop was mistaken for the real thing by a concerned citizen, who made a "frantic" 911 call. Police officers responded promptly; when one actor failed to drop his weapon, officers were prepared to shoot what they thought was an armed and dangerous assailant. Happily, a tragedy was averted and no one was hurt. A police spokesman said, "They were very polite and apologetic and respectful. We lectured them and sent them on their way.” [ABC News]

Paradise Trailer: The directorial debut of Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult) will be heading to home video on August 9, via DirecTV's video-on-demand service, ahead of a limited theatrical release on October 18. Julianne Hough stars in Paradise as a woman who loses her faith after a tragic plane crash and travels to Las Vegas in search of fun and/or sin. Russell Brand, Octavia Spencer, Nick Offerman and Holly Hunter also star; the first trailer looks quite charming. [Collider]
