Moviegoers Pick 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' as the Most-Anticipated Movies of 2017

Dec 29, 2016

Once again, a Star Wars movie is the most anticipated release of the year, according to Fandango's 2017 Hot List survey of more than two thousand moviegoers. And if the results hold up, 2017 promises a lot of excitement at the multiplex, with a much heralded return of beloved characters and stories highlighting the year's top three most anticipated movies, Star Wars: Episode VIIIGuardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and the live-action Beauty and the Beast.  Filling out the ten most anticipated are all superheroes and sequels.

Sequels also top separate lists of anticipated comedies and horror films, with Pitch Perfect 3 and Alien: Covenant. However, they each also include original works. For comedies there's the Amy Schumer-led Snatched and the Ice Cube vs. Charlie Day movie Fist Fight. For horror, moviegoers picked the twisty new M. Night Shyamalan effort, Split, and the outrageous Get Out, which is by Key & Peele's Jordan Peele. There's also Stephen King's It, one of two anticipated King adaptations. The other is The Dark Tower.

In addition to the lists of movies, moviegoers were also polled on their choices for most anticipated actors and actresses, as well as rising stars they're looking forward to seeing on the big screen in 2017. Fans are especially excited for Emma Watson and her promise in Beauty and the Beast and The Circle, while for the male performers, Chris Pratt dominated for his return in Guardians, and Idris Elba represented The Dark Tower. Daisy Ridley also placed high for her return in Star Wars plus her role in Murder on the Orient Express.
