Norman sees dead people. That, of course, makes him an outsider. His hair's a little taller than Vanilla Ice and his eyebrows are thicker than a drag queens, but we suppose that's Universal's way of confirming he's weird. (We did note that one of the characters in the trailer has plugs in his ears, which means someone took a cue from the interns on set.) When a witch's curse threatens to destroy his town, Norman has to contend with his misunderstood reputation in order to save everyone. Chris Butler of Coraline and Corpse Bride fame co-directed and wrote the morbid tale, which features the voices of Casey Affleck, John Goodman, and Kodi Scott-McPhee. The 3D, stop-motion ParaNorman opens on August 17. [via Apple]
The Despicable Me minions are back, and this time they come armed with their stabby version of a Beach Boys song. Directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud return for the sequel, which now features the voice of Al Pacino as Gru's (Steve Carell) nemesis. If you go to see Dr. Seuss' The Lorax this weekend, you'll find this little ditty fronting your trailer. More supervillainy, minion mayhem awaits you in 2013. If you've had your coffee and want to get excited about the movie now, watch the clip below.
It's been a long journey for The Hobbit, but Peter Jackson continues to reassure us that the film is still on the way by releasing his nifty video production blogs. A new one has arrived and shows just how much more fun the cast and crew is having than the rest of us poor saps. They get to swing from trees and braid their eyebrow hair. What's not to love? It's a nice slice of life from the set, with several brief interviews — including a chat with Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman). An Unexpected Journey hits theaters on December 14, 2012, while The Hobbit: There and Back Again arrives December 2013. Indulge yourself in the clip below.
