Listen: Morgan Freeman Auditions for 'Duke Nukem'

Aug 29, 2012

Fact: It was impossible to be a PC gamer in the '90s and not be intimately familiar with the voice of the alien-hating, stripper-loving Duke Nukem. But what if we lived in an alternate world where Duke's voice wasn't quite so gruff and grimy? What if we lived in a world where lines like, "Half man, half animal, all dead," "I'm an equal opportunity ass-kicker," and "So many babes, so little time" were brought to life by the dulcet tones of the man with the cough syrup voice, Morgan Freeman?

Well, let's just find out. Warning, very NSFW language is found in both the below videos:

Not a bad Morgan Freeman impersonation, right?

Of course, the real Duke Nukem was voiced by Jon St. John, who is no stranger to the gaming voice-over industry, which is growing bigger every year. Duke is his highest profile character by far, but St. John has also leant his voice to to such gaming properties as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tabula Rasa, Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Guild Wars 2.

As a reminder of what the real Duke Nukem sounds like:
