Time to ease into another work week – and we’ve got just the thing to help you get through another case of the Mondays: casting updates for two of Marvel’s hotly-anticipated comic book movie sequels and some hints about The Expendables 3. Read on for the full skinny.
Now that Thor 2 has finally resolved all its directorial issues – Patty Jenkins landed the gig, but left over creative issues and was replaced by Game of Thrones’ Alan Taylor – casting is moving ahead in anticipation of the title’s summer 2012 shooting date.
Casting reports from the Disney Film Auditions website state that all of the major talent from the first film will return for the sequel, including Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins (and his ridiculous eyepatch, one would assume) and Tom Hiddleston.
That being said, if you’re an actor looking to do some work as an extra or pad your resume, and will be in London this summer, Marvel Films still has lots of spots to fill. Check out the website for more details. The good news here is that the major actors are all back onboard for the sequel – meaning there won’t be a reason to guess why Loki or Odin look different.
Disney Film Auditions also has the inside scoop on Iron Man 3, and its good news as well.
According to the site, the stars of the previous film will all be back in the sequel – including Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. She’ll join Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, and Gwyneth Paltrow in the feature, which is being written by Shane Black and Drew Pierce and directed by Black.
Black says that Iron Man 3 will be like a “Tom Clancy thriller,” with Tony Stark taking on real world villains. “The studio wasn’t happy with the result of Iron Man 2, a result that pretty much came about due to a rushed production in an attempt to hit a release date rather than simply make a good film, but I digress. Iron Man 3 will not be another ‘two men in iron suits fighting each other.’”

Finally, with Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables 2 not due out until August, it seems a little early to be talking about sequels – but that didn’t stop MMA legend Randy Couture from dropping some tantalizing insider info about plans for a third feature in the series during a recent interview the guys at BJJ Addict.
In the video, Couture mentions “we’re probably going to start shooting Expendables 3 in the fall, after The Expendables 2 comes out in August.”
Take this info with a huge grain of salt – while Stallone might have intentions of making a third film in his blossoming action franchise, nothing will be set in stone until we see box office returns from the upcoming film. Plus, a fall start date seems unduly optimistic. We’ll keep you posted on this one as we get closer to The Expendables 2’s August release date. [via Dark Horizons]
