Since he's not retiring yet we still have plenty to look forward to from Steven Soderbergh, especially the film he's working on now, Behind the Candelabra. It's been in development for a long time, and almost didn't happen when Michael Douglas was diagnosed with throat cancer. Now that he's cancer-free, though, we're finally going to see his portrayal of the famous flamboyant pianist Liberace, with Matt Damon playing his longtime lover, Scott Thorson. Though no official images have arrived yet from the film, which will premiere on HBO in 2013 before transitioning to theaters, we have seen some unofficial set photos, with the latest providing the best look yet at Douglas and Damon as the real-life duo.
What's shocking us the most isn't the fabulous '70s-inspired hairstyles, but how young Douglas looks as Liberace. Maybe it's a combination of the wig and the makeup, but damn the guy looks like old-school Douglas here. As per Collider, the man standing with both Douglas and Damon is Fredric Prinz von Anhalt, Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband. The images were taken while they were filming in their house, which has a long history itself, having once been rented out by recluse Howard Hughes in the 1960s.
Check out the images and let us know what you think. We're still waiting on official dates for Behind the Cadelabra.
