Michael Bay Responds to 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle' Complaints: "Fans Need to Chill"

Mar 20, 2012

The one thing we like about Michael Bay is he's never one to ignore the fan community when they're all up in his face about something. Just yesterday Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans caused an uproar over comments Bay made about the turtles being aliens. According to fans this toyed a bit too much with what they've grown accustomed to -- turtles who become ninjas after they're hit with radioactive slime -- though some failed to realize that the TMNT origins do indeed include aliens, including one named Krang, who may be the villain in this new film. Still, though, folks love to crap on Michael Bay -- and this thing has grown so out of hand that one of the Michaelangelo voice actors from the older films has accused Bay of raping "our childhood memories." Cowabunga, are you for real dude?

And so Bay shot back from his Shoot For the Edit message boards, saying, "Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

So, yeah, relax. Let the man do his thing. This is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and they really don't have to try too hard to make it better than the other live-action TMNT films that have come before it. Listen to Michael Bay turtle lovers and, ya know, chill. Eat some pizza or something.
