If you're looking forward to more Transformers movies, there's a new one coming out this summer. And another one next summer. And another one is due in the summer of 2019. And, well, according to Michael Bay, there are at least 14 Transformers movie ideas that could come to fruition in the foreseeable future.
Bay was interviewed by MTV's Josh Horowitz at CinemCon last week, and in their talk it was confirmed that next year's Bumblebee spinoff will be a prequel that leans towards a younger audience. The director, who has helmed all the Transformers movies so far, including the upcoming Transformers: The Last Knight, also divulged that the latest sequel will feature Easter eggs teasing future installments.
Could that also include a G.I. Joe tie-in? Unfortunately no crossovers were brought up.
And the 14 stories that currently exist for potential sequels and spinoffs apparently specifically involve Transformers. That double-digit amount must have been the product of the eight-person writers room that producers Bay, Steven Spielberg and Lorenzo di Bonaventura set up a couple years ago. Whether all of them are intended to be produced is unclear.
"There's good stuff," Bay tells Horowitz. "I would like to do one of them."
So even though he has said, once again, that the latest Transformers movie would be his last, he seems to be addicted and wants to do one of the spinoffs. At least he was honest about being done with the main series? Speaking of people not being done with Transformers, Bay also hints that Shia LaBeouf could return in some form someday.
Obviously there's going to be room for him to at least cameo in one of these movies. For now, look for The Last Knight in theaters on June 23 and the Bumblebee spinoff, directed by Travis Knight, is due June 8, 2018.
