Michael Bay Bets $25,000 That You Won't Find Obnoxious Autobot Twins in Transformers 3

May 16, 2011

Here's an update to a story we ran late last week regarding those obnoxious Autobot twins from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and how they were apparently returning for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, despite statements from Michael Bay claiming they were not in the film. You remember Skids and Mudflap, right? They were the "black" robots from the second Transformers movie, and folks criticized the duo for adding nothing but lame, offensive cliches to the film, like gold teeth and dumb, hip-hop-speak.

Following the racist firestorm, Michael Bay insisted the Twins would not be returning for the third Transformers movie, but then our own Peter Hall discovered images of two Chevy cars that looked practically identical to the ones used by the duo in the previous movie, suggesting they were, in fact, returning for another go-round. Plus, in an early review posted at AICN, the critic also claimed they were in the film, but then later edited the mostly positive review. So ... based on all these weird facts adding up, one would think the Twins do make some sort of return, right?

Wrong. Michael Bay wants you to know that they are not returning for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and he's so sure of this fact that he's actually offered $25,000 to the person(s) who can find them anywhere in the movie. He writes over on his website, "After the internet posting of a nice review by someone who saw Transformers Dark of the Moon, the writer had not been clear on one thing. He misstated that the Twins are in the film. They are not. So I am offering a $25,000 REWARD to anyone who can find them performing in Transformers 3, on July 1, when the movie opens." When told the Twins actually make a brief appearance in the trailer, Bay responded with, "Trailer houses sometimes use shots that are not in the movie! End [of] story[.] I’m don’t [sic] wasting my time [on] this!”

Well okay then. That settles that, I suppose. Either all of us are in the wrong, or Michael Bay is gonna have to shovel out an awful lot of money real soon. Guess we'll find out on July 1st.
