Max Page may not be a household name, but odds are you’ve seen his work. The seven-year-old starred in one of 2011’s best Super Bowl commercials, appearing as a young Darth Vader in a spot for Volkswagen.
Unfortunately, Max was born with a congenital heart defect and will be undergoing open heart surgery to correct the issue today. The procedure is set to fix his pulmonary valve and replace a hole in his heart.
Max’s mother Jennifer wrote an update letter to advertising agency Deutsch LA to explain how the youngster was handling the news. He isn’t going all Darth Vader about his health issues, but he is using his own force power to keep his spirits up while helping to raise money for other kids with heart issues as the ambassador for Children’s Hospital in LA.
She explains that he’s scared about the procedure (he listed “blood draws,” “spending the night in the hospital,” and “hurting” as his three biggest fears), but he’s found a way to cope with it all – by redesigning the family home into various themed “zones.” For example, the hallway requires everyone whisper while moving through it. The garage is marked as a disaster area for messy art and science projects. Sounds fun – and not unlike my garage.
The young actor has figured out that being upbeat about this is the best way to go and has tried to find the positive in the events transpiring around him. He’s got one piece of advice for any kids in a similar situation: “if you use your FORCE and dream big, you can achieve anything.” Words to live by...
Good luck, Max – get well soon.
