Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One collector’s edition box set is back on – and the unintentional delay is actually going to work out to fans’ benefit as the studio is adding tons of new goodies to the massive set, including some first glimpses of Phase Two titles.

The hubbub over the 10-disc set (featuring six films) began back in September when the comic studio was sued for using a knockoff version of the briefcase featured in The Avengers. Marvel has now redesigned the case (which will still come with a glowing Tesseract cube) and has the set on course for an April 2 release date.

The collection was already looking pretty sweet as far as extras were concerned (like lots of cut footage from the films, including this alternate ending from Thor), but apparently Marvel has decided that wasn’t enough after the packaging snafu and they’re going to make it up to fans by cramming the new discs with hints about Marvel’s second phase of superhero films.

What might these newly announced goodies be? Marvel boss Kevin Feige is being coy with the details, explaining fans will find “footage, concept art and a few new surprises when they open the box.” He then adds, “Also, look for a nod to Iron Man 3 in the Tony Stark S.H.I.E.L.D. file in the box set.” We’re already giddy with anticipation.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One set doesn’t come cheap (it retails for $219), but we suspect fans of the films will gobble this set up. Six great movies, loads of previously unreleased extras, and a sneak peek at Phase Two? What respectable comic fan could pass all that up? Start saving your pennies now; April 2 will be here before you know it.
