Doctor Strange

Happy Hump Day, true believers! We hope you’re ready for some Marvel mania, because we’ve got the latest on Doctor Strange, Agent Carter and more awesome Guardians of the Galaxy fan art.

Let’s jump in.

Dr. Strange targets 2016 release date

Filmmaker Scott Derrickson has been tapped to helm the big-screen debut of Marvel’s Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange, and now we’ve got a tentative date for the start of filming. Screen Daily reports that Marvel is in “advanced negotiations” to shoot the Phase Three feature at Pinewood-Shepperton Studios in England, with an eye on a May 2015 start date, with the film hitting theaters on July 8, 2016.

Marvel and Disney have an ongoing relationship with the popular filming destination, having shot Avengers: Age of Ultron there already, and Star Wars: Episode VII currently.

This is good news, except we still don’t have official confirmation on who will be playing the strongest mystic in the Marvel galaxy when the shooting gets underway. Early buzz still indicates it will be Joaquin Phoenix, but we’ll have to wait for official word.

James D’Arcy joins Marvel’s Agent Carter in a familiar role

Hayley Atwell will have a new costar when Marvel’s upcoming television series Agent Carter gets underway. The actress will be joined by James D’Arcy.

The period drama, inspired by Captain America: The First Avenger, finds Atwell’s Carter trying to balance her normal life with a side gig doing secret missions for Howard Stark in the aftermath of World War II. D’Arcy will reportedly play Stark’s butler, Jarvis, who also helps out Carter and later becomes the inspiration behind Tony Stark's robotic assistant. [via Variety]

People have taken a real shine to James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, which makes it funny to think back to a few months ago when some of us were worried the property might be too niche to catch on with mainstream comic movie fans.

While the whole Guardians cast is great, people really love Groot and Rocket Raccoon -- and the Net has exploded with fan art for the two characters, including this new photo that’s making the rounds.

With Halloween right around the corner, it seems fitting that someone would carve a giant Groot jack-o'-lantern. We’re sure to see more of these as the calendar marches toward late October, but it’s going to be hard to top this one.
