Marvel Has Another 2018 Movie: 'Secret Warriors' Animated Feature

Marvel Has Another 2018 Movie: 'Secret Warriors' Animated Feature

Dec 08, 2017

Next year's already looking like a great year for Marvel movies. We've got Black Panther in February, Avengers: Infinity War in May and Ant-Man and the Wasp in June. Well, now there's one more. Arriving sometime late in the year is an animated Secret Warriors feature that will be an installment of a new franchise called Marvel Rising.

Here's what we know about the movie:

Which characters are part of Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors?

The relatively diverse and mostly female and teen-aged ensemble will consist of:

- Captain Marvel (voiced by Grey's Anatomy's Kim Raver)

- Muslim superhero Ms. Marvel (Kathreen Khavari, who also voiced the character in the Avengers Assemble animated series

- Latina-American LGBT superhero Miss America (The Fosters' Cierra Ramirez)

- Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub, who is also playing the character on the upcoming live-action New Warriors series)

- Quake (Chloe Bennett, who also plays the character on the live-action series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.)

- Ghost-Spider, aka Spider-Gwen (Dove Cameron, who also voiced Gwen Stacey in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man)

- Inferno (Teen Wolf's Tyler Posey)

- African-American superhero Patriot (K.C. Undercover's Kamil McFadden

- Exile (X-Men: Days of Future Path's Booboo Stewart)

- Tippy Toe and Lockjaw (both voiced by American Dad's Dee Bradley Baker)

Also, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Ming-Na Wen will voice the villain Hala, while Steven Weber will voice Gwen's dad, Captain George Stacy, despite the actor's having voiced Norman Osborn in the Ultimate Spider-Man series.

Will the movie be our first introduction to this franchise?

No. The plan is for six very short (four minutes in length) digital episodes to be released over the course of 2018. They will be focused on the Ghost-Spider/Spider-Gwen character. Marvel Rising is being set up as a multiplatform franchise, meaning different content will arrive online, in theaters and elsewhere.

What is the premise of Marvel Rising?

According to Deadline, the logline is: "When a threat no one could have expected bears down on the Marvel Universe, this ragtag, untrained band of teens have no choice but to rise together and prove to the world that sometimes the difference between a 'hero' and 'misfit' is just in the name."

When can we see it?

That's unknown, but for now you can watch a video showcasing the characters, voice talent, some rough animation and the creators of the series below.
