When Disney acquired Marvel Comics a few years back, it was impossible to not immediately start thinking about how the two companies might merge their various universes. Now, after almost three years of waiting, we’re finally about to get our first animated crossover production with the debut of Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel.
Set to debut next summer on the Disney Channel, Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel will find teams of Marvel superheroes and villains transported to Phineas and Ferb’s hometown of Danville. When Dr. Doofenshmirtz creates a device that robs Spider-Man, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor of their superpowers, it’s up to Phineas and Ferb to help the characters regain their abilities and defeat a team of villains featuring Red Skull, M.O.D.O.K., Venom and Whiplash. It appears as though lots of action and hilarity follows.
We’ll be the first to admit that merging Marvel’s heroes with Dan Povenmire and Swampy Marsh’s amusingly bizarre cartoon series is a little odd, but after watching the promotional trailer below, we’re definitely onboard.
Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel will mark the first animated production crossover between Marvel and Disney since they came together, but it’s not the first time Marvel has taken over a Disney property. Marvel Super Heroes took over Disney’s Club Penguin online last month – an event that was apparently a pretty big hit.
Now that the door is open for potential crossovers, what do you want to see Marvel and Disney team up on next? Something like Pixar’s The Incredibles meeting up with The Fantastic Four seems like it might have potential…
