We expect to hear some big announcements from the Walt Disney camp at their upcoming D23 expo, and now we know what to look forward to. Disney teased those announcements today by laying claim to a few release dates in 2014 for upcoming Marvel and Pixar movies that haven't been officially announced yet. Disney/Marvel reacted to Sony's gobbling up of May 2nd, 2014 for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 by snatching up May 16th, 2014 and June 27th, 2014 for as-yet-announced superhero films. We're not sure what those are right now, but if we were guessing we'd say Ant-Man and Captain America 2. However, with Marvel releasing two sequels in 2013 (Thor 2 and Iron Man 3), there's a chance they may use 2014 to launch more than one new character.
Meanwhile, they've also set a May 30, 2014 release date for an as-yet-announced Pixar film. It's a pretty big move for Pixar to snatch the coveted Memorial Day Weekend slot (especially since they're fond of dropping movies in late June), so we assume they have something big planned. Could we see another Pixar sequel announcement in the coming weeks? Other Pixar films already slotted for release include Brave (June 22nd, 2012), Monsters University (June 21, 2013) and one other mystery title on November 27th, 2013.
