Alright kids, here's your feel-good story of the day. When 4-year-old Anthony Smith received his first hearing aid -- called "Blue Ear" -- things really started to come together. Anthony, who lost all hearing in his right ear and has substantial hearing loss in his left, was finally hearing better and talking more thanks to that little device. However, things took a turn for the worse when Anthony refused to wear the hearing aid because, according to him, superheroes don't wear hearing aids. And as a superhero-obsessed little boy, this was kind of a big deal.
Enter: Anthony's mom, who on a whim emailed Marvel to ask them for help. 24 hours later Marvel came to the rescue by not only sending Anthony a Hawkeye comic, showing him that at least one of their heroes also wears a hearing aid, but they also invented a brand-new superhero called "Blue Ear" to help inspire Anthony to wear his hearing aid with pride, which he now does. This, in turn, inspired Anthony's school to host a superhero week, and from there the story began to spread.
Nice one, Marvel -- it's good to know the folks behind the heroes are now heroes themselves too. No word on whether Marvel has any plans to draw a comic based on Blue Ear. Check out the story below.
