Michael Bay has become synonymous with giant robots and ruining childhood memories (e.g. Platinum Dunes’ decision to make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles into aliens…) over the past few years, but once upon a time he made more straightforward action films – films sort of like his upcoming feature Pain & Gain. Have a peek at the first trailer for the film and take a little trip down memory lane.
Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and Anthony Mackie star in this tale of a kidnapping gone wrong, based on a true story. The unlikely trio plays a group of personal trainers and an ex-con who become tired with their current existence and plan to improve their lot in life by ripping off a rich businessman (Tony Shalhoub). Naturally, this doesn’t go so well, so there’s more pain and less gain by the time the end credits roll.
The clip actually looks kind of entertaining – despite the abundance of what we like to call “Bay-isms” in the biz. That means we can expect lots of hyper-edits marring action sequences, leering camera shots, and crazy camerawork. If that’s your bag, this is gonna be right up your alley.
Pain & Gain is set to pump its way into theaters on April 26. Check out the synopsis and the trailer below.
