I guess they were No. 1 seeds for a reason.
The four top-seeded summer blockbusters survived our March Movie Madness Tournament to form the coveted Final Four – which means that The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Avengers will compete for a chance to play in the championship and claim the contest’s overall trophy.
This started when we ranked 32 anticipated titles into four Regions, then further ranked those titles into seeds numbering 1 through 8. Each day, a new Region opens to voting. Victors will advance until a champion is crowned on April 20.
Now, it’s up to you. Consider all factors – Quality, Critical Response, Box Office – before picking a movie. Cast your vote, and help us figure out which two movies are moving on to compete in the Championship. Then check back often to see how your favorite movie did.
Region 3 and 4 -- Round Four
(1) The Amazing Spider-Man vs. (1) The Avengers
Superheroes will win, and superheroes will lose … but Marvel’s going to walk away smiling no matter which film emerges from this Final Four battle. This was a very tough bracket to get through. Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man and Joss Whedon’s The Avengers – while definitive No. 1 seeds – had to get through Pixar’s next one (Brave), a Total Recall reboot, and the revisionist history of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Whew!
If I had to bet, I’d put my money on The Avengers, if only because it’s benefiting from a heavy promotional push as Walt Disney prepares to kick-start Summer 2012 on May 4. But Spider-Man lays claim to the coveted July 4 slot, meaning it could swing to greater heights if – for some reason – The Avengers underwhelms. I think it’s unlikely either of these films whiffs. I think both are going to be powerhouses this season, as both look fantastic as they prepare for release. So tell us … when Summer 2012 is in the books, which film will we will be talking about: The Amazing Spider-Man or The Avengers?
