Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield Officially Back for 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

Sep 28, 2012

When most superhero movies make a ton of money worldwide the studio instantly locks down the main talent - the star and the director - for a sequel. That wasn't the case with The Amazing Spider-Man. Columbia Pictures' reboot of the web crawler made over $750 million worldwide, and while a sequel was immediately in the works, no deals had been signed for star Andrew Garfield or director Marc Webb

Until now.

Columbia Pictures just issued a press release confirming that both Garfield and Webb, who might have been kept from the project due to a contractual obligation to make his next movie at Fox Searchlight, would return to the franchise. The currently untitled sequel has a release date of May 2, 2014, and will be arriving in 3D when it hits. Also in talks to return is Emma Stone, but as of right now her deal has yet to be locked down.

This second installment in the series will be working from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on an earlier draft by James Vanderbilt, who penned the first film in the series. That's really about all we know right now. So, let the speculation as to where they'll take the story and what villain Spider-Man will have to take down next begin!
