It's here! What is quite possibly the most anticipated trailer of the holiday season has arrived with an exclamation point. Man of Steel is not just important because it's a new Superman movie, but it's also the film that will help launch the next wave of DC Comics-based movies for Warner Bros., specifically its version of The Avengers, Justice League. In short, this is kind of a big deal.
First, watch the trailer below.
Definitely props for not going with the Inception music on this one. Score one for Supes in that regard. The score is light, romantic and ominous, with a majority of the trailer spent on Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) saving the life of a child when he was a child as a voiceover talks about how he's different from everyone else, and what sort of responsibility that brings to a person.
This remains in line with everything we've seen before, and the quick montage of other scenes we get toward the end teases only some of what's to come. While we thought this trailer would give up more, it doesn't, and that's a good thing. There's a quick shot of Michael Shannon as Zod, a tiny glimpse of Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and instead of teasing massive action sequences, it seems as if they're teasing the beginnings of action sequences -- the buildup to a big action sequence. We especially love the shot (also in the Comic-Con footage) of Clark and Lois standing in the middle of nowhere with the military behind them as what looks to be a mighty storm approaches.
What is that storm? Who is that storm? Glad this trailer keeps some stuff close to its "S" chest. Man of Steel hits theaters on June 14, 2013. So whaddya think? Does this trailer get Zack Snyder the directing job on Justice League?
