Make an Eye-Popping 3D Short and Win Big from Sony

May 26, 2010

If you’re a budding filmmaker, film student or just ahead of the technological curve, you might be able to use your talents to win some 3D-tastic prizes from Sony. The electronics superpower needs 3D content to bundle with its new 3D HDTVs, so it’s holding a contest that gives people a chance to have their short film be bundled with every new TV it sells (holy global exposure!). Sony is looking for 10 short videos (five to 10 minutes in length) that demonstrate 3D in the best way possible (that means using active shutter technology, not the old red-and-blue anaglyph glasses). The short films can be computer animated, motion graphics or just a cool fly through—they just need to be professional, show off the 3D effect and be family friendly.

So what can you junior James Camerons get for your inventive filmmaking? The top three winners get a complete 3D theater system with a BRAVIA TV, 3D Blu-ray player and surround system. Seven runners up will score the BRAVIA LX900 3D TV and the next 50 winners will win a Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D Blu-ray. There aren’t many contests where you can come in 60th place and still win a pretty cool prize—one of the first 3D Blu-rays available—so if you’ve got the skills, show them off before the July 9 deadline.
