NBC's Hannibal is apparently the bane of two big screen superhero projects this week. Pilot director and series producer David Slade had to back out of directing Fox' new Daredevil, and now it's been discovered that Mads Mikkelsen's commitment to the series is keeping him out of a different Marvel movie: Thor 2.
Last May Variety reported that he had signed onto the project directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones), but now a video interview [via The Playlist] with the great Danish actor has revealed that while he had indeed met with the production and wanted to be in the film, it's just not possible. The production timelines didn't work out, and so it seems Hannibal Lecter will be his next big American project for the foreseeable future.
And that's unfortunate. We're big fans of Mikkelsen's around these parts, and while we're certainly intrigued to see what he brings to Hannibal under the direction of David Slade, we'd have loved to see him beat up on Thor. And so begins the speculation of who can fill his rather sizeable shoes...
