Joseph Kosinski pleased the eyes and ears of moviegoers when he created TRON: Legacy in 2010. The director re-created the neon world of Disney's 1982 film starring Jeff Bridges — who gets trapped inside an electrifying computer mainframe — and brought French music duo Daft Punk onboard to score the electronic soundtrack. The best-selling sounds amped up the dazzling visuals. Now, the filmmaker is interested in complementing a whole new project with a killer score.

Kosinski will be directing the big-screen adaptation of his own graphic novel Oblivion. The sci-fi epic is set to star Tom Cruise as one of the last men on Earth (a chilling prospect) who repairs "drones" that guard the planet from alien invaders. "Living in and patrolling the skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues an attractive female stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything." Zoë Bell and Morgan Freeman also star in the upcoming film.

Kosinski asked shoegaze electronic group M83 to create the soundtrack, and the band has been updating fans with their progress. The below video shows M83 recording a drum battle between Loïc Maurin and Ilan Rubin for an action sequence in the movie. It looks about as intense and fast paced as you can imagine the film to be. Oblivion opens in IMAX on April 12 and makes its theatrical debut April 19. [via Coming Soon]
