Luke Skywalker's Home Has Been Restored, Thanks to a Group of 'Star Wars' Fans
Belgian Star Wars enthusiast Mark Dermul and a team of dedicated workers have given a huge gift to fans of the classic George Lucas film. Their "Save the Lars Homestead" project is finally complete. The group set out to restore the prop home used in the 1977 movie that represented Luke Skywalker's childhood abode on planet Tatooine. The structure was falling apart due to harsh weather conditions in Tunisia, North Africa, where morning temperatures reach over 100 degrees.
The dome was rebuilt in 2000 for Attack of the Clones, but it also disintegrated. Dermul raised $10,000 and spent a week in Africa restoring the building, which is detailed in the below videos. Hopefully a new coat of protective paint and some dense puttying will keep the structure from decaying once more. [via Design Taxi]
