Quick Hits: A New 'Luke Cage' Trailer, David Yates' Next Film, 'Man of Steel' Re-Writes

Judge DreddNo, that image to your right is not a preview of some fan's costume for Comic-Con this weekend.  That's the first official still of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd.

A lot of people are wondering what's the next film on David Yate's plate now that he's finished his fifth and final Harry Potter movie.  Well, no one knows for sure, but it's a very safe bet that Warner Bros., coming off of their record-breaking box office weekend, will let him direct pretty much whatever he wants.  Vulture has a run down of the potential projects he's reportedly flirting with, the most interesting of which is a 3 film adaptation of Stephen King's best novel, The Stand.  And while he's actually a very good fit for the material, he'd be either mad or an extreme workaholic to take on another multi-film story after so many years spent back-to-back on Potter.

James Wong and Howard Gordon, who both cut their production teeth working on The X-Files back in the day, are teaming together to adapt an unpublished robopocalypse book titled 2084 written by first time author Gregg Rosenblum.  And while I am normally for any film in which mankind suffers at the hands of his robo servants, I've got to admit making George Orwell's 1984 100 years in the future but with robots sounds pretty lazy.  I hope I'm wrong.

Even though the The Man of Steel is only a few months away from principal photography, a new writer is reportedly being brought in to take a pass at the screenplay.  This time it's 300 co-writer Kurt Johnstad, who is said to be touching up a draft that's been worked on by David Goyer and Jonah Nolan.

Watch out Isaiah Mustafa, you're not the only black actor to pitch themselves for a hypothetical Luke Cage movie by making a trailer.  Eric Thomas Wilson is gunning for the gig, too:

I'm pretty sure that at this point if a script touches Guillermo del Toro's desk, he's considered a producer on it.  Case-in-point, a new adaptation of Beauty and the Beast potentially starring Emma Watson.

Amanda Righetti, the red head from Marcus Nispel's Friday the 13th remake, has been cast in an unknown role in The Avengers, most likely as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Speaking of Marcus Nispel, a lot of people have been complaining about how his Conan the Barbarian looks nothing like the Arnold Schwarzenegger version.  I say that's a great thing:
