The Bourne Legacy

Replacing Batman: Anticipating the conclusion of his run as Batman, Christian Bale had several projects lined up, including American Bullsh*t, based on the late '70s / early '80s Abscam scandal in which six members of Congress were implicated. But now Bale is out and Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy, above) is in negotiations to step into the lead role. David O. Russell (The Fighter) is still attached to direct the project, which is now officially … untitled. [Variety]

Mouth to Mouth: Our favorite high school detective has long since grown up, and now Kristen Bell (aka Veronica Mars) is ready to play a 30-ish reporter who gets involved with a 16-year-old bad boy after she returns home and resumes working as a lifeguard. Sounds trashy! The Lifeguard starts shooting in Pittsburgh (?!) this month, with Mamie Gummar, Martin Starr, Amy Madigan, Alex Shaffer and Joshua Harto already cast. TV vet Liz W. Garcia (Memphis Beat) wrote the script and will direct. [Deadline]

From Royalty to a Skin Empire: He’s written about a dictator (The Last King of Scotland), British royalty (The Queen), and American Presidents (Frost/Nixon, The Special Relationship), and now he may write about the founder of Playboy Magazine. Peter Morgan is in negotiations to craft a screenplay based on the life of Hugh Hefner, which is under development by veteran producer Jerry Weintraub. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Breaking Evil: In a new clip from Total Recall, due out on August 3, we get a short, tasty look at Bryan Cranston, the hero-turned-villain in TV's Breaking Bad. Here he plays a menacing figure on a small screen (sounds familiar!), expressing his displeasure to Kate Beckinsale. [Hollywood.com]
