 Gangster Squad

Shooting Sensitivity: After the tragedy in Aurora last weekend, Warner Bros. pulled the trailer for Gangster Squad, which featured a scene with gunmen shooting up a movie theater in late '40s/early '50s Los Angeles. The studio decided the sequence should be excised entirely and new replacement scenes filmed, but with the release date of September 7 looming, there may not be enough time, so the film looks likely to be bumped to next year, perhaps in January. It’s Not a Comic Book, It’s HBO: With Ruby Sparks, the lovely new film by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Ferris (Little Miss Sunshine), opening today in New York and Los Angeles, the directors are readying their next project. They’re shooting a pilot episode for a proposed series on HBO entitled The Landlord and based on a script by Daniel Clowes (Ghost World, Art School Confidential) about a college professor who inherits an apartment building. Directors Love to Act: First it was Rob Reiner, and now another actor turned director has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street. Iron Man director Jon Favreau will play a securities lawyer in the film, which starts shooting next month. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a stockbrocker at a firm involved in a corruption scandal. First Love: Though some have called it a “lesbian werewolf movie,” Jack & Diane is better described as an indie romance with horror undertones. Juno Temple and Riley Keogh play teenage girls who experience the trials and tribulations of first love. It’s due out via VOD on September 28 and in theaters on November 2; the sensitive, yet unnerving first trailer has dropped. [Coming Soon]
