Watch: 'Lovely Molly' Trailer Shows Off the Latest Fright Flick from a 'Blair Witch' Director

There are plenty of horror movies centered around people moving into an old home in the middle of the woods, but you know that when one of the directors of The Blair Witch Project enters that niche, this isn't going to be your average creaking floorboards movie. Eduardo Sanchez' Lovely Molly had its world premiere last year at the Toronto International Film Festival, though it finally came to the US a few weeks ago as part of the SXSW Festival Favorites, where it proved to be quite the effective little haunter about the terrible things that happen to a good girl when she moves back into her childhood home, and now ahead of its May 18th theatrical release we've got our first trailer for the film thanks to an Apple premiere.

To be perfectly honest, the trailer isn't the greatest. Lovely Molly does an impressive job of building dread and atmosphere, so, for spoiler-free example, when you finally hear a disembodied voice in the house call out Molly's name, it really crawls up your spine and down into your gut. Cramming those and other creepy, inexplicable moments into a two-minute trailer just doesn't do this particular brand of horror justice.

Still, whether the trailer does or doesn't work for you, we do recommend you give Lovely Molly a shot when it hits theaters in May. Gretchen Lodge gives a really great performance as the eponymous gal, and we promise that there's more going on under the psychological hood of Sanchez' film than you'll find in most "spooky house in the woods" horror movies.
